Mineral dust blown into the air can impact Earth’s systems in many ways. NASA has started work on a new Earth Venture-Instrument 4 (EVI-4) mission called the Earth Surface Mineral Dust Source Investigation (EMIT). This mission aims to comprehensively measure the mineral composition of dust from Earth’s arid land regions – a source of mineral dust in the air – using a unique NASA-invented imaging spectrometer.
