Workshop on ASTER and MODIS Data for Land Surface Studies
September 14 – 17, 2004
U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science Center (EROS), Sioux Falls, South Dakota
This is a 3 1/2-day workshop to provide hands-on experience with methods for data access, processing, and analysis of Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission/Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) data and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) land data products.
Who is this Workshop for? Research and applications scientists from natural resource and land management Federal government agencies who have current or anticipated needs for the use of satellite remotely sensed data. The Workshop will focus on terrestrial geology, biology, hydrology, and geography from an interdisciplinary perspective.
Workshop Description
The Workshop will cover an overview of ASTER and MODIS data product characteristics,
methods of data access and retrieval, and interactive data analysis. These topics will be presented
through a combination of lectures and hands-on computer-based exercises, as summarized in the preliminary schedule. Some experience
with digital image analysis or geographic information systems (GIS) software is desirable.
Workshop Location
The Workshop will be held at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science Center (EROS) located approximately 10 miles north of Sioux Falls,
South Dakota (http://edc.usgs.gov/). EROS hosts the Land Processes Distributed Active
Archive Center (LP DAAC) in support of NASA’s Earth Observing System Data and
Information System (EOSDIS).
