Aqua MODIS FMU/SSR Anomaly

By: LP DAAC

On February 22, 2022, a Formatter-Multiplexer Unit (FMU) / Solid State Recorder (SSR) anomaly began to affect Aqua MODIS in which 17-19 seconds of Aqua's high-rate science data are corrupted approximately every two orbits (roughly every 3 hours 28 minutes and 15 seconds). A plan of action is being developed to address the corrupted sub-module, but before recovery takes place, the memory will suffer about seven losses per day or 133 seconds of high-rate science data. A list of affected acquisition times for all Aqua MODIS Version 6 and 6.1 data products is being maintained in the detailed description for the FMU/SSR anomaly.

An update on the data recovery will be announced via news announcements on the LP DAAC website. Subscribe to the LP DAAC’s listserv by sending a blank email to lpdaac-join@lists.nasa.gov to receive listserv messages from the LP DAAC regarding recent updates.
