ASTER L2 Processing Options Update

Oct 20, 2020
By: LP DAAC

The LP DAAC is no longer able to incorporate Total Ozone Analysis using the Solar Backscatter Ultraviolet Radiometer (SBUV/2) and TOVS (TOAST) ancillary data inputs for any ASTER observations after May 27, 2020 as part of the Science Scalable Scripts-based Science Processor for Missions (S4PM) Version 3.4 Product Generation Executables (PGE) for generating ASTER Level 2 on-demand products. The TOAST Ozone data product has been discontinued as of May 27, 2020. Users can still request the TOAST ozone input data option, but note that any ASTER observations in the request that occur after May 27, 2020 will fall back to the climatology ozone input. Users will still be able to request TOAST ozone inputs for any ASTER observations that occurred before May 27, 2020. The LP DAAC is exploring options for a replacement ozone data source for observations that occurred after May 27, 2020. Be sure to subscribe to the LP DAAC listserv by sending a blank email to lpdaac-join@lists.nasa.gov to be the first to learn of any developments on this topic.

Below is a list of ASTER Level 2 data products that are impacted by the TOAST Ozone data discontinuation for observations post-May 27, 2020:

  • ASTER L2 Surface Emissivity (AST_05)
  • ASTER L2 Surface Reflectance VNIR and SWIR (AST_07)
  • ASTER L2 Surface Reflectance VNIR and Crosstalk Corrected SWIR (AST_07XT)
  • ASTER L2 Surface Kinetic Temperature (AST_08)
  • ASTER L2 Surface Radiance VNIR and SWIR (AST_09)
  • ASTER L2 Surface Radiance TIR (AST_09T)
  • ASTER L2 Surface Radiance VNIR and Crosstalk Corrected SWIR (AST_09XT)
