The Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC) will be decommissioning the Terra and Aqua Combined MODIS Version 5.1 Land Cover Type data products on January 7, 2019. These annual products at 500 meter (m) (MCD12Q1) and 5,600 m (MCD12C1) spatial resolutions will no longer be distributed by the LP DAAC or available for download from NASA’s Earthdata Search, Data Pool, AppEEARS, or USGS EarthExplorer. The improved MODIS Version 6 datasets have been available since May 2018, allowing the MODIS community to transition from the Version 5 products over that time.

The Version 6 Land Cover Type Data Products are available for download through the LP DAAC Data Pool, AppEEARS (MCD12Q1 only), and NASA’s Earthdata Search.
The Terra and Aqua Combined MODIS Version 5 Land Cover Dynamics Yearly L3 Global 500 m SIN Grid (MCD12Q2) data product will continue to remain available.
