Landsat data from 1972 to 1999 are now available in NASA's Earthdata Search for discovery, visualization, and ordering. The recently released Landsat 1-5 Multispectral Scanner (MSS) Collection 1(C1)Level-1 dataset from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)completes the Landsat C1 product suite discoverable in Earthdata Search. Download of the data requires USGS ERS login credentials.

The USGS has reorganized the Landsat archive into a formal tiered data structure, referred to as a “Collection.” The Collection structure ensures that Landsat Level-1 products provide a consistent archive of known data quality to support time-series analyses and data “stacking,” while controlling continuous improvement of the archive and access to all data as they are acquired. The Landsat Collections include: Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI)/Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS), Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+), Landsat 4-5 Thematic Mapper (TM), and Landsat 1-5 Multispectral Scanner (MSS).

Additional product information and other useful resources can be found on the Landsat 1-5 MSS Collection 1 webpage.
