LP DAAC Releases Level-1 and Level-2 ECOSTRESS V2 Data Products

The Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC) is pleased to announce the availability of the ECOsystem Spaceborne Thermal Radiometer Experiment on Space Station (ECOSTRESS) Level 1B, L2, and L2T_LSTE Version 2 data products. These products are produced by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and are offered at a spatial resolution of 70 meters (m). Included in this data release are the land surface temperature and emissivity (LSTE) swath and tiled products, the swath cloud mask product, top of atmosphere calibrated radiance data product, geolocation data product, and spacecraft attitude information. This initial release covers the mission period from October 26, 2022, forward with plans to circle back to historical data processing.

Attached to the International Space Station (ISS), ECOSTRESS measures the Earth's surface temperature to better understand how much water is used by plants. More information on ECOSTRESS can be found on the ECOSTRESS website.

ECOSTRESS Version 2 improvements and additions.

  • ECO_L1B_RAD radiance calibration has been applied to correct the ~1K cold bias.
  • ECO_L1B_GEO increase in geolocation accuracy.
  • ECO_L2_CLOUD algorithm has been revamped to have a more rigorous single-channel Bayesian cloud threshold with a look-up-table (LUT).
  • Addition of ECOSTRESS Tiled Land Surface Temperature and Emissivity Instantaneous L2 Global 70 m v002 (ECO_L2T_LSTE.002) data product.

All ECOSTRESS Version 2 data products are available for download through NASA’s Earthdata Search. ECO_L1B_GEO, ECO_L2_CLOUD, and ECO_L2_LSTE are available through AppEEARS. Additional L1 & L2 products will be released in the near future with higher level data products to follow.
