The forward processing of Version 5 (V005) MODIS land data products is planned to end on December 31, 2016. This is due to the successful implementation of improved Version 6 (V006) algorithms for all core (or "Tier 1") MODIS land products. The Version 5 historical record is planned to be kept accessible for at least one year after December 31, but users are advised to transition to the improved Version 6 products.
Users are also advised that a one-to-one correspondence does not always exist between versions; the forthcoming Version 6 "Tier 2" products will (for example) include additional Version 6 counterparts to Version 5, along with new additions to the overall product suite.
