On behalf of the Joint Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS)-Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellite (CGMS) Working Group on Climate (WGClimate), we are pleased to announce that a new version of the Essential Climate Variables (ECV) Inventory, version 4.1, has been made publicly available on https://climatemonitoring.info/ecvinventory/. CEOS and CGMS use the ECV Inventory to improve and advance the planning of climate related measurements from space to avoid future measurement gaps. The ECV Inventory aims to help users of data records in discovery and access of data spanning atmospheric, oceanic, and terrestrial domains. The v4.1 entries address a selected set of ECVs related to the carbon cycle, in support of the 2022 WGClimate Gap Analysis exercise. Of this selected set, 28 LP DAAC dataset entries have been chosen for inclusion in the v4.1 release. Those datasets include Fire, Land Cover, Leaf Area Index (LAI), and Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FAPAR) ECV categories.
Links to product information for each selected dataset are provided below. Some datasets satisfy more than one ECV category. In this case, the dataset will have entries for each ECV category that is addressed.
