The Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC) is pleased to announce the availability of the Terra and Aqua combined Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Version 6 global Land Cover Dynamics data product (MCD12Q2 V6). The MCD12Q2 V6 data product provides global land surface phenology metrics at 500 meters spatial resolution in yearly intervals from 2001 to 2016. The phenology metrics are derived from time series of MODIS-observed land surface greenness utilizing the 2-band Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI2) calculated from MODIS Nadir BRDF-Adjusted Reﬂectance (NBAR). Several improvements to the MCD12Q2 V6 data product include: better capture of phenometrics with multiple vegetation cycles per year, assignment of phenometrics for cross calendar vegetation cycles to a single product year, improved quality assurance information, and representation of date as days since January 1, 1970.
