The LP DAAC is pleased to announce the availability of the Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) Version 2 Level 1B Geolocated Waveform Data, Level 2A Elevation and Height Metrics Data, and Level 2B Canopy Cover and Vertical Profile Metrics Data for September 3 through October 28, 2020.

A link for the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) landing page for each of the GEDI datasets is provided below.

  • GEDI L1B Geolocated Waveform Data Global Footprint Level - GEDI01_B
  • GEDI L2A Elevation and Height Metrics Data Global Footprint Level - GEDI02_A
  • GEDI L2B Canopy Cover and Vertical Profile Metrics Data Global Footprint Level - GEDI02_B

LP DAAC offers a variety of resources for working with GEDI V2 data products.

The Accessing and Analyzing GEDI LIDAR Data for Vegetation Studies video was presented as a part of a NASA ARSET LIDAR and SIF training series in Spring 2021. This session summarizes where and how GEDI LIDAR data can be accessed, followed by a demonstration showing participants how to open, interpret, and analyze GEDI data for assessments of vegetation structure.

The GEDI Spatial Querying and Subsetting Quick Guide provides instructions on finding granules for a region of interest and performing spatial and/or layer subsetting of GEDI sub-orbit granules in NASA’s Earthdata Search.

The Jupyter Notebook Python tutorials provide guidance on Getting Started with GEDI L1B Version 2 Data in Python, Getting Started with GEDI L2A Version 2 Data in Python, and Getting Started with GEDI L2B Version 2 Data in Python.

Users can access the data products through the Data Pool and NASA’s Earthdata Search.
