The Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC) is pleased to announce the availability of the Terra and Aqua Combined Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Version 6 global Land Cover data products at 500 meter (m) (MCD12Q1) and 5,600 m (MCD12C1) spatial resolutions in yearly intervals from 2001 to 2016. A primary improvement of the Version 6 (V6) MCD12Q1 data product includes the use of six classification schemes with new gap-filled spectro-temporal features applied. The V6 MCD12Q1 data product provides global coverage of land cover types, associated confidence assessments and quality control, and a land/water mask. The MCD12C1 data product is a spatially aggregated and reprojected version of the tiled MCD12Q1 data product and includes global coverage of land cover types from three different classification schemes, associated confidence assessments, and percent of land cover type in any given pixel.

The data are available for download through DAAC2Disk, Data Pool, and NASA Earthdata Search. MCD12Q1 is also available through AppEEARS.
