Release of MODIS Version 6 MAIAC Data Products

The Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC) is pleased to announce the availability of three Terra and Aqua Combined Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Version 6 global Multi-Angle Implementation of Atmospheric Correction (MAIAC) data products. There are two Level 2 Gridded data products: MAIAC Land Surface Bidirectional Reflectance Factor (BRF) (MCD19A1) and Land Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) (MCD19A2), and one Level 3 data product: Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF) Model Parameters (MCD19A3). MCD19A1 is provided daily, at 500 meter (m) and 1 kilometer (km) spatial resolutions, from 2000 to present. MCD19A2 is provided daily, at 1 km spatial resolution, from 2000 to present. MCD19A3 provides data every 8 days (representing data acquired on the 8th day only), at 1 km spatial resolution, from 2000 to present.

The MCD19A1 data product includes an estimate of the surface spectral BRF as it would be measured at ground-level in the absence of atmospheric scattering or absorption. The MCD19A2 data product provides the atmospheric properties and view geometry used to calculate the MCD19A1 data product. The MCD19A3 data product provides three parameters associated with the Ross-Thick Li-Sparse (RTLS) BRDF model and instantaneous spectral albedo. The BRDF/albedo retrievals represent cloud-free and generally low aerosol conditions.
