The Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC) is pleased to announce the availability of the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer (VIIRS) Surface Reflectance (VNP09) Version 1 product suite, produced by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).This product suite includes 500 meter, 1 kilometer, and 0.05 degree products at daily and 8-day temporal resolutions. The VNP09 collection will eventually comprise of data from January 2012 to present as historical processing is ongoing. This collection will also continue to grow chronologically.

VIIRS is one of five instruments on-board the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP), which launched in 2011.Suomi NPP is the first in a series of four Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) satellites scheduled for the future.

VIIRS extends the legacy of NASA’s Earth Observing System (EOS) Terra and Aqua satellites’ Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor. VIIRS global change observation products are being generated in a MODIS-like format using modified MODIS algorithms.

Additional product information can be found at:
