NASA Earthdata's User Profile series recently featured Dr. Mike Ramsey, Professor of Volcanology and Planetary Science at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr.Ramsey uses NASA Earth science data to study the spectral emissivity of volcanic products like lava. He even created the ASTER Urgent Request Protocol (URP) system to rapidly detect new thermal activity around the world and to target Terra ASTER to capture data on the new activity. This system has been used to extensively cover the recent eruption of Kilauea in Hawaii. Read the full story. Learn more about Terra ASTER.
