MODIS Version 6.0 (V6.0) land data products have been decommissioned as of Monday, July 31, 2023. This includes all Terra MODIS, Aqua MODIS, and combined Terra+Aqua MODIS datasets with the exception of the Land Water Mask (MOD44W) and the Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function and Albedo (BRDF/Albedo) Gap-Filled Snow-Free (MCD43GF) data products. MODIS V6.0 data products are no longer available for search and download from Data Pool, AppEEARS, NASA’s Earthdata Search, USGS EarthExplorer, or OPeNDAP.
The User Guides and Algorithm Theoretical Basis Documents (ATBDs) for MODIS V6.0 data products have been retained on the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) landing pages on the LP DAAC website. The DOI landing pages will remain available as a permanent URL for historical information and citations. The LP DAAC’s Search Data Catalog webpage defaults to operational datasets so the Status filter will need to be removed or set to “Decommissioned” when searching for decommissioned data products.
Users are encouraged to utilize MODIS Version 6.1 (V6.1) data products. MODIS V6.1 offers additional data products that were not available in V6.0. The complete list of MODIS V6.1 datasets is available on the MODIS Products Table.
MODIS V6.1 data products are available for download through the Data Pool, AppEEARS, NASA’s Earthdata Search, and USGS EarthExplorer.
