The MODIS Science Team has notified us regarding a problem with all existing MODIS Terra + Aqua Land Cover Type L3 Global 500 m V005 products (Shortname: MCD12Q1). The problem relates to pixels within tiles that are on the edge of the MODIS Sinusoidal grid, which are being labeled “IGBP Class 12” (or other data values for the other schemes) instead of “no data” or “255” values. This problem does not affect land pixels, and therefore, does not affect most users. The problem persists across the entire collection from 2001–2007. The data provider accords the highest priority to correct this problem, and we hope to resolve it by next week.
