ECOSTRESS will move to Build 7.12 to account for a newer version of the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) input into the evapotranspiration (ET) product. ECOSTRESS Build 7.11 used VIIRS Collection 1 (Version 1), which is no longer produced as of June 17, 2024; therefore, ECOSTRESS started using VIIRS Collection 2 (Version 2) on June 17, 2024. The newer version of VIIRS input differs by <1% in the surface reflectance product which has minimal impact to the ET end product. The change in ECOSTRESS Build ID reflects the new input for transparency and reproducibility but Builds 7.11 and 7.12 are considered fully compatible. Users should note that there are no differences between 7.11 and 7.12 for the radiance, geolocation, land surface temperature and emissivity, and cloud products.
The four-digit build number is easily identifiable in this example of an ECOSTRESS filename –
