The first mineral maps from NASA's Earth Surface Mineral Dust Source Investigation (EMIT) mission have been produced. These mineral maps are created using data collected by the EMIT imaging spectrometer instrument aboard the International Space Station for regions in northwest Nevada and Libya in the Sahara Desert. EMIT will help scientists better understand the mineral dust composition of the Earth and how dust affects climate heating and cooling.
