(Author's Note 5/18/2020: Reverb has since been retired. Users are encouraged to use NASA Earthdata Search in place of Reverb. Several of these datasets are also available in AppEEARS. To see the currently available tools to access the data please visit the "Access Data" button each data product's DOI landing page.)

Beginning July 20, 2016, LP DAAC will require users to log in using their Earthdata login credentials to obtain data. This change will affect how you obtain ASTER, MODIS, and other LP DAAC data from the following locations:

  • When using the direct Data Pool links or OPeNDAP links, you will be prompted at the time of download for your credentials..
  • When using the DAAC2Disk GUI, you will be prompted to log in prior loading the site.
  • When using GloVis or EarthExplorer, you will notice an additional login box after selecting LP DAAC data. This account will be in addition to your current USGS ERS login.
  • Script users will also need to modify scripts to allow for this change.

Reverb and Earthdata Search users will not be affected, since these systems already require an Earthdata account and login prior to obtaining data.

The Earthdata login account must be created on the Earthdata Login Page. After you create your account, you will also need to “authorize” the LP DAAC Data Pool application. This is a simple process that can be done within your Earthdata login account profile. If you need help, please see our FAQs for detailed instructions. Once the Data Pool application has been authorized, you will be able to download data from all search clients listed above.

NOTE: As part of this change, LP DAAC data downloads will not be supported through the USGS Bulk Download Application (BDA).

If you have any questions, please contact LP DAAC User Services.
