LP DAAC released the NASA SRTM Global 1 arc second dataset (SRTMGL1) over Africa on October 8, 2014. This coincides with the newly processed Africa area released by the USGS on September 23rd, 2014, through EarthExplorer.

The NASA Version 3 SRTM Global 1 arc second are void filled using elevation data from ASTER GDEM2 and USGS GMTED 2010 (USGS National Elevation Dataset (NED)). For detailed information regarding SRTM please see the SRTM User Guide.

The NASA SRTMGL1 are available over Africa in 1° X 1° tiles at 1 arc second (about 30 meters) resolution.

Africa is the first continent to be released after the US and its Territories as the global 1 arc second data. The rest of the globe will be released in the future. We will be adding news announcements as the new areas are added to our data clients.
