By: LP DAAC

Version 2.9 of the Application for Extracting and Exploring Analysis Ready Samples (AppEEARS) has been released. This release includes the following:

  • The availability of the new NASA-produced Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Leaf Area Index (LAI)/Fraction of Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FPAR) Version 1 data product (VNP15A2H.001).
  • Updates to the user interface including improved display of axis labels and the addition of map projection details when “Native Projection” is selected on the Area Sample Request form.
  • The Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) data products currently available in AppEEARS ceased forward processing on or about June 2, 2018. The temporal extent attribute for SMAP products was updated to reflect this date.
  • Correction to the map parameters within the grid mapping variable for SMAP products requested as NetCDF.

This release also includes a correction to the assignment of “no data” values for no data regions within an Area sample output. This issue occurred when requested area samples stretched into locations that did not contain land Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) tiles.

About AρρEEARS

AρρEEARS offers a simple and efficient way to perform data access and transformation processes by enabling users to download only the data they need. AρρEEARS provides access to a wide range of environmental variables derived from sources such as MODIS onboard the Terra and Aqua satellites, as well as population information from the Gridded Population of the World (GPW) Version 4 collection.

A complete listing of data products available in AρρEEARS can be found here. Additional resources for using AρρEEARS are available on the LP DAAC E-Learning page.
